Sunkissed Acres NC was established in 2019 to formalize the rescue and adoption work its founder was already doing in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. In the ensuing years, the rescue has succeeded in—
Trapping and spaying/neutering (TNRing) nearly 3,500 “community” and feral cats and kittens. While it is always our hope not to have to release a cat back outside, it is sometimes a behavioral or resource necessity. We do not release young kittens or elderly cats back outdoors for their safety. At a minimum, we know the unfortunate souls we have helped will no longer be able to reproduce (thus helping to decrease the number of homeless cats in our area). Additionally, these animals will be far less likely to engage in territorial behavior that often leads to life-altering injuries; far less likely to contract and spread a variety of life-threatening illnesses, thus giving them healthier, more dignified lives; and far more likely to possibly be socialized and adopted as pets in the future.
Helping more than 200 cats and dogs stay in their homes by financially supporting the essential veterinary care and medications their guardians were otherwise unable to afford. This care has included spaying/neutering, vaccinating, and microchipping residents’ pets; donating treatments for fleas and fungal infections; and covering the cost of surgery and other acute care for a wide range of medically compromising conditions. As one example, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Sunkissed Acres NC leaned on the amazing Mr. David Parkins and his Parkins Pawcab nonprofit to deliver more than ten van loads of food and related pet supplies to the devastated citizens of the Asheville area. Our efforts to assist struggling pet parents have meant the difference between beloved pets being able to stay in their homes or being relinquished to face, at best, a terrifying change in circumstances or, at worst, euthanasia.
Socializing and adopting more than 3,000 cats and dogs into loving forever homes, thoroughly screening potential adopters to ensure each animal under our auspices is placed into a safe and financially viable environment where it will be cherished as an integral family member and will no longer suffer the horrors of heat, cold, injury, or starvation for the remainder of its natural life.
